Desiree
Desiree Thring is a patient who became a caregiver, and a daughter who lost both of her parents in less than two years. She is a visionary, community-focused changemaker, a hairstylist by trade, and a holder of a PhD in lived experience.
Desiree's Story
On May 21, 2023, Desiree lost her mother just nine weeks before her wedding. Then, on February 5, 2025, she lost her father. Throughout both journeys, she witnessed firsthand the systemic challenges that can create the perfect storm for patients, families, and caregivers.
These experiences revealed the profound value of lived experience—insights that often cannot be captured in a medical record alone. Through her own caregiving journey and countless conversations with healthcare professionals, Desiree gained a deeper understanding of the realities faced by both families navigating the healthcare system and the providers working within it every day.
From this realization, and an unwavering desire to drive positive change, Not Just One Voice was born.
